volunteering at st luke’s

Being part of a team here at St Luke’s is a great way to meet like-minded people, build friendships and see the Church grow, allowing more people to come to know and love Jesus.

In order to protect our church family well, volunteers at St Luke’s must be safely recruited. You’ll also be asked to confirm that you agree with the St Luke’s Statement of Faith, which you can find here.

Safer Recruitment
Procedure (Step-by-Step)

If you have not seen the role description for the role you wish to volunteer for, please get in touch with before continuing with the process below.

  • Please fill in the application form to provide us with some more details about yourself, along with information about your interest & experience in the volunteer role you’re applying for.

As part of this form, you will be asked to provide us with details for two references. Neither of these should be a relative, and at least one of them should be somebody from your church context.

  • Complete a DBS check online.

To complete the DBS application, please ensure that you include all names you've been known by & all addresses you've lived at in the past 5 years.

If you need a DBS for the role you are volunteering for, you will have been assigned a unique user ID, in order to complete this step. If you believe you need a DBS but have not been given an ID number, please send us an email!

  • Send an email to volunteering@stlukes.church with photos of your ID documents (to complete your DBS check!)

You will need to provide three forms of ID, one must show your current address (and match with the address you entered on the DBS form!).

Most people use a valid passport, driving licence (provisional or full), or a bank statement. There is a full list of the documents you can use here.

  • As part of the safer recruitment process, volunteers are required to complete at least two of the Church of England’s safeguarding training: Basic Awareness, and Foundations.

You’ll need to make an account for the Safeguarding Portal, and complete the online courses with the titles listed above. They should only take you a couple of hours!

If your role requires additional training, you should have received this information along with the role description.

Once you have completed this training, please send the digital certificates to volunteering@stlukes.church.

  • Please complete this confidential declaration form.

Your answers will not necessarily impact your ability to volunteer at St Luke’s, but will provide us with helpful guidance as to whether there are other necessary steps to take in the recruitment process.

We appreciate that these steps may seem time-consuming, but it's important to us to follow the Church of England's guidance on Safer Recruitment, and we want to do our best to keep our church family' safe as they learn more about what it means to follow Jesus and be part of a church family! Your commitment to this training is much appreciated.
